Today, Africa is experiencing dramatic growth and transformation. The Fifth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD V), to be held in June 2013, will discuss, as its main themes, how Japan will be able to help African economies achieve inclusive and green growth sustainably and to work toward promoting private sector development, trade investment, and infrastructure development in this region.

As Africa is transforming it is producing great business opportunities for Japanese firms. We are witnessing diverse developments going on in relation to Japanese firms’ business activities in Africa, exemplified by the fact that an increasing number of such firms are building local business establishments, taking part in development projects including large corporate buyouts, and entering into BOP business and environment-related business.

With TICAD V approaching, the African Development Bank will organize this seminar in order to provide participants with an overview of the business opportunities that the transformation of Africa and the development of its private sector are expected to bring about for Japanese firms, while presenting actual successful cases. Through the seminar it also aims to provide Japanese firms with a forum to discuss future visions for private sector development and for support measures for African business desired by Japanese individuals and firms, including the perspective of public-private cooperation.
